This composition unit was the focus of our Quarter 2 studies. Students began by reviewing last year's study of notation as well as learning to read and write notes in Bass Clef. Students learned simple rules for composing melodies and how to write and analyze chord progressions in major and minor keys.
After learning and practicing these skills, students composed pieces in ternary (ABA) form. Under more normal circumstances, the next step would have been for students to orchestrate their composition using GarageBand and the MIDI Lab in the music classroom.
