8th Grade General Music
Rock and Roll
8th Grade students study the history of Rock and Roll. Last year, we were lucky to have a presentation and performance from the School of Rock. |
GarageBand Arranging
8th Grade students created their own versions of Beatles songs using GarageBand at our MIDI stations. |
Guitar
8th Grade students work towards being able to use guitar to accompany themselves singing. |
Units of Study
- History of Rock and Roll: Students use TeachRock.org, a digital curriculum created by the National Association for Music Education, to study the history of Rock and Roll music.
- GarageBand Arranging: Students continue their use of GarageBand from 6th and 7th grade, but rather than composing, they create their own arrangements of Rock and Roll tunes.
- Guitar: Students work independently or in small groups to play melodies and chords on the guitar. Students complete a final project in which they sing while accompanying themselves on the guitar.
- Handchimes: Students work together as an ensemble to play a variety of songs, including melody and accompaniment.
