8th Grade General Music
Rock and Roll
8th Grade students study the history of Rock and Roll. Last year, we were lucky to have a presentation and performance from the School of Rock.
8th Grade students created their own versions of Beatles songs using GarageBand at our MIDI stations.
8th Grade students work towards being able to use guitar to accompany themselves singing.
Units of Study
- History of Rock and Roll: Students use TeachRock.org, a digital curriculum created by the National Association for Music Education, to study the history of Rock and Roll music.
- GarageBand Arranging: Students continue their use of GarageBand from 6th and 7th grade, but rather than composing, they create their own arrangements of Rock and Roll tunes.
- Guitar: Students work independently or in small groups to play melodies and chords on the guitar. Students complete a final project in which they sing while accompanying themselves on the guitar.
- Handchimes: Students work together as an ensemble to play a variety of songs, including melody and accompaniment.
